How to keep running from feeling like work and how to stay motivated when injured |
Personal Trainer Erik and Houston Personal Trainer Melissa give their perspectives on keeping fit using cross training and spiritual development to keep workouts fresh! When Personal Trainer Erik went to college back from his summer working at a Christian camp in Michigan as a kayaking instructor and counselor for boys, he got right back into his rigorous running schedule at The University of Texas, and personal training workout routine with his clients. "Running started to feel like work to me but going to Michigan and working with the kids and having the spiritual support and teamwork of the other counselors helped me get back into focus as to what running really means to me personally", said Colorado Personal Trainer Erik. "Running, or any physical activity is a natural expression of my own individual talent and when I do it to the best of my ability, I feel I am praising God and thanking him for the gifts he has given me" Erik said. Each person has talents and abilities and gifts which should be utilized and expressed and these things are natural and beneficial to the individual and to those around them as well. Personal Trainer Melissa of Houston offers this observation on keeping fit..."when I was injured and could not workout the same way I had before, I realized that workouts had become overly important to me in my daily living and I had to adjust my thinking which was a difficult task" I knew that exercise and workouts were important for good health, but balance and moderation and flexibility regarding the types of workouts that were useful were also important for good health and I needed to adjust my priorities". Now my workouts are "still happening", but my focus each day is not JUST exercising and workouts and my schedule allows for time off as well as flexibility in my choices of workouts. The biggest thing is for people to realize that activity is a choice and does not have to be in a context of just the gym. When a person goes to work, instead of driving, perhaps they could ride a bike. When someone needs help with moving a chair, a man is not the only one who can help move furniture...its all about keeping active in any circumstance! |

Tom Telez says running up an incline can improve running form. |
During a conversation with Running Coach and Carl Lewis's Olympic Coach Tom Telez of Houston, Personal trainer in Texas Melissa, learned that running up a moderate incline or hill of about a twenty to thirty degree low grade, is very efficient for building leg strength and for encouraging proper running form..preventing over striding. Coach Telez compared it to moving a car..if a person wanted to efficiently move a car would they run in front of it pulling the car and taking big strides? Or would the person trying to move the car get behind the car and push it using small steps with rapid turnover? So running faster requires fast turnover of the feet and this skill can be developed while running on an incline.

Houston Personal Trainer Melissa runs two miles in the morning and two miles in the evening to help burn body fat. These runs or rather JOGS, are endurance activity however they are short enough to maintain muscle and they are done on an incline or low grade which helps build muscle. Sexy personal trainer Melissa tries to avoid stopping and REALLY maintains consistency with the daily jogs. Running helps burn abdominal fat and keeps the butt sexy and cellulite free. After the runs it is very important to stretch the quads (front of the thigh) and even MORE important to stretch the hamstrings. Foam rollers can be used to help facilitate this and the stretches can also be done using a belt to achieve the full amount of stretch possible when there is a lack of flexibility.
