Calories eaten later in the day are
less satisfying according to a
new study conducted by John M. De Castro Ph.D. at the University
of Texas at El Paso. Many people complain that they raid the
refrigerator
in the evening, and in the study, an analysis of seven day diet diaries
of 900 men and women confirmed that the average time span between
snacking diminishes as the day continues on. A good way to prevent late
night snacking is to eat a solid breakfast, according to de Castro. He
found that on the days people ate the most at breakfast, they ate 100
fewer calories total for the day compared to the days when they ate the
least for breakfast. Rats and other animals eat the most just before a
long period of inactivity, but since people don't go to bed right after
dinner there is a greater chance for overeating. Houston in home
personal trainer Melissa eats about five hundred calories between when
she gets up and ten am. which is half of her daily intake. She eats
hundred calorie snacks the rest of the day and if she is hungry before
bed, she eats a package of instant apples and cinnamon oatmeal which
has high fiber and only 130 calories.
