There are several different weights for sledge hammers and it is good to start with the lighter one (ten pounds). Sledge hammer workouts are amazing for getting ripped abs because the torso is required to do a lot of the work. The sledge hammer workout can be done in the front yard if a person has one..and can be done to aerate the grass by driving a metal stake repeatedly in the yard =) (beware sprinkler systems and wiring)..however because this is not practical for most people, an old tire will work for hammering just as well.
